Northeast US is buried in snow

January 24, 2000 The second snowstorm in less than a week continues to bury the Northeast US under a thick blanket of snow. The latest storm shows the classic structure of a Noreaster, and could result in large accumulations from Virginia to Maine.

The best place to look for winter weather patterns is in the solstice chart, reproduced below. The Moon which rules precipitation is active with Jupiter (sextile) which intensifies anything it touches,so it's really no surprise that we're getting plenty of it. Saturn and Uranus rule the cold winter signs of Capricorn and Aquarius, and  are active (in square) in the Solstice chart. As viewed from the Sun, the activity (square) between Saturn and Uranus is almost exact (less than a degree from exact).

Modern astrological technique uses midpoints, which are quite revealing in the 1999 Winter Solstice chart. For example, the Jupiter/Saturn midpoint (at 2 Taurus 51) which symbolizes lots of cold is on the descendant of the Washington DC chart (1 Taurus 38). The Moon/ Uranus midpoint (19 Aries 15) which symbolizes lots of unusual weather and rain) trines the Jupiter/Pluto midpoint (at 18 Aquarius 03) which symbolizes lots of developmental evolution or growth. Finally, the Moon  (24 Gemini 11) trines the Saturn/Pluto midpoint (25 Aquarius 53) which is a point of crisis, and the midpoint of these two points is Jupiter (which intensifies) at 25 Aries 01.
